IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Cook
Abercrombie
May 13, 1929 – November 15, 2021
Helen Cook Abercrombie passed away into the arms of our Jesus on November 15, 2021.
She was born on May 13, 1929, in Mexia, Texas to Bob and Ruby Cook. Helen attended Mexia schools where she enjoyed dances at the lake and playing in the band. Upon graduation, she went to North Texas State University where she was a member of Zeta Pi Gamma which became Kappa Delta. It was there that she met her husband, Don Abercrombie. They were married on November 16, 1950, and remained married for 62 years until his death in 2012.
Helen loved to sing and enjoyed acting. As an actress/model with Kim Dawson she did many print ads and can even be seen as featured in Phil Collins/Genesis official music video, "Jesus He knows Me". One of her favorite movies to work on was License to Kill starring an unknown actor named Denzel Washington. She introduced herself to him and told him she thought he would be a big star someday to which he smiled and said " Helen, I hope you are right." She and Don were never happier than when they were traveling the globe. Their children and grandchildren were the apple of their eye, and they made many happy memories with them. The grandkids enjoyed spending time with their Meme and Papa.
Helen is survived by her children, daughter Donna Abercrombie McClendon and her husband Laurence, son Donald Carter Abercrombie and his wife Angi, three grandchildren Barrett Laurence McClendon and his wife Tara, Alyssa McClendon Kelso and her husband Brendon, Presley Tene't Abercrombie and two great grandchildren Karsyn Ruth Kelso and Camden Taylor Kelso. Helen will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Don at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. A private family memorial service will be held.
A special thank you to Leonas Helping Hands/Twin Cottage and Trio Hospice for their excellent care, compassion, and love as they provided for Helen in her final days. They made sure that as she left this earthly life, Frank Sinatra was singing in the background.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make donations to Operation Kindness or the Animal Rescue Organization of your choice.
