Helen Marie Garrett Clark, 92, of Conroe, Texas passed away on February 26, 2017.  She was born on January 6, 1925 in Lamesa, Texas, to Nancy and James Lige Garrett, one of nine children.

After graduating from Lamesa High School, Marie worked her way through college as secretary and a model, earning a BBA degree from Hardin-Simmons University in 1949. She eventually married, adopted three boys, and devoted herself to family life in Decatur, Texas. There, she enjoyed knitting and having coffee with friends, playing "42," attending her boys' football games, and involving her family in the many activities at the First Baptist Church.

After sending her sons off to college, then watching them begin families of their own, she moved to Denton, Texas. On July 24, 1994, she married Benjamin F. Clark, whom she adored until his death. She and Ben were members of the First Baptist Church in Denton, Texas, where she was active in Bible Study and the "Huggers and Helpers" Sunday School Class.  During these years Marie most cherished the many hours spent with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a woman of grace and charm, a stickler for grammar, fashion, decorum and table manners, and, most importantly, a loving grandmother and mother, unwavering in her love for her sons and their families.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton Friday evening March 3, 2017 for visitation from 5 – 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning March 4, 2017 at the DeBerry Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Cliff Feeler officiating. Burial will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, Texas. Pallbearers will be Cody Lewis, Jacob Elmore Lewis, Gary Powell, David Guzman.

Marie is survived by her three sons, William Marion Lewis, Jr. and life partner Amy Gilmour of San Antonio, Robert Kendall Lewis of Alvord, Derrick Winston Lewis and wife Linda Rae Lewis of Conroe; eight grandchildren, Carrli Tenille Woodard and husband Eric, Micah Renea Powell and husband Gary, William "Cody" Marion Lewis III, Cassi Marie Hilliard and husband Derek, Blake Allison Lewis, Jacob Elmore Lewis, Jade D'Ann Garner, and John Gideon Ezell Lewis; seven great grandchildren, Trinity Alexis Nivens, Caidyn Marie Powell, Corbyn Layne Powell, Hailyn Paige Hilliard, Brittyn Shae Woodard,  Addisyn Grey Hilliard, and Kaison Scott Shipp.

Marie is preceded in death by her father James L. Garrett; mother Nancy P. Garrett, husband, Benjamin F. Clark, six sisters, and two brothers.
