Obituary

Henry “Hank” William Denny

Henry “Hank” William Denny, 78, of Argyle, Texas passed away on Friday, January 9th. Hank was born in Houston on January 11, 1947, to Minor and Cliff Denny.

Hank grew up in Houston and went to the University of Texas in Austin where he met and married Mary Craver. He was drafted into the Army to go to Vietnam where he served in a Recon unit.

After returning to the states, Hank moved to Denton and attended North Texas State, (UNT) where he earned a degree in Banking and Finance.

Hank was an entrepreneur; he was involved in real estate and several other businesses. In 1982 Hank and Mary bought into the Quail Creek Shooting Range where he taught shooting skills, gun safety, target practice, personal safety, and CHL for 36 years.

Hank worked with countless police departments, federal agencies, sheriff’s departments, and ladies hunting groups. He was active in the Dallas Safari Club for 30 years. Hank was a great proponent of the Second Amendment.

In 1990 Hank married Janet Clemmons and together they operated Quail Creek for 28 years. Hank and Janet retired and moved to Argyle, Texas in 2023, where they were very involved with the Benchmark Bible Church of Corinth and enjoyed their wonder dog, Casper, gardening, bird watching, herding hummingbirds, and visiting with family and friends.

Hank was an avid sportsman. He and Janet loved to travel to the Texas coast for fishing. They went on an African safari, and annual trips for quail hunting in North Dakota.

Hank was a wise and gentle man, a beloved husband and father with a great sense of humor. He was a raconteur and all enjoyed him telling stories especially about the imaginary lives and thoughts of his hunting dogs.

Hank’s God given wisdom and compassion was evidenced by his many lifelong mentoring relationships. He was a staunch prayer warrior of unwavering faith.

Hank is now enjoying well-earned rest with his Lord, his 40 dogs, 3 horses, and his bobcat, Wookie.

Hank is survived by his wife, Janet Clemmons Denny, his son and daughter in law, Bryan and Kelly Denny of Denton, stepson and daughter in law, Stephen Hammett and Jacqueline Banas, and his “perfect” grandson, Archer Lee Hammett of Dallas. His siblings are Elizabeth Sims, Ann Roth of Dallas, and Clifton Denny of San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held at Benchmark Bible Church in Corinth, Texas, on January 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
