Henry Walter Scheible, known to many as Hank, passed away on October 9, 2026, in Carrollton, Texas. He was born on March 27, 1943, in Denton, Texas, in his grandparents’ house. He lived a life marked by service, faith, and deep love of country.
Hank grew up in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1961. He graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from North Texas State University (now known as University of North Texas).
He entered the United States Air Force in 1967 and completed Officer Training School as a Second Lieutenant in May 1968. He entered Air Force pilot training at Reese AFB in Lubbock, TX. He completed his Navigator training at Mather AFB CA in 1969. After he received his navigator wings, he went to Castle AFB Merced CA to train on KC-135 refueling aircraft. On completion of training, he was assigned to Grand Forks AFB strategic air command. He was then selected as a Weapon Systems Officer (back-seater) in F4 Phantom fighter jets which sent him to training at Luke AFB AZ. Following the training, he was assigned a combat tour to Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, where he flew over 100 combat missions during the Vietnam War from 1972-1973. There he became a member of the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association. His next assignment was Torrejon AFB Madrid Spain. Due to the reduction in force after the Vietnam war, he separated from the Air Force in 1976. Flying was his love and serving his country in both combat and peace. During his service he received many commendations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
On returning to the US, he entered Southwestern Theological Seminary and completed his Master’s Degree in Religious Education and Counseling in 1978. After his graduation from Southwestern, he served at a non-profit organization in Crockett TX as director and counselor for a youth substance abuse program. It was at this time that he earned his Licensed Profession Counseling license with special certifications in substance abuse and marriage counseling.
After leaving Crockett, he worked towards a doctorate in Counseling at UNT. He worked as an Assistant Religious Education Director at the Denton State School chapel, an Assistant Veteran’s Service Officer in Dallas County, and as a substance abuse counselor and rehabilitation case worker for the Gainesville State School. He then became a Veterans Service Counselor for Denton County where he worked until retirement. In that role, he offered guidance and support to fellow veterans, continuing a lifelong commitment to those who had also answered the call to serve.
After his retirement in 2008, Hank encountered several health issues. Despite those health issues he and the love of his life, Lyn, continued to travel together to many countries. Their trips together included visiting Europe, Greece, Israel, China, Alaska, and many states visiting friends and family.
Hank was a faithful servant of the Lord. Hank and his family began worshipping at Southmont Baptist Church in 1981. There he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and on various church committees. He also led the young married and college ministries. Hank was a strong supporter of missions efforts including serving on various mission trip teams.
Hank was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed providing his family opportunities to experience other cultures, countries and trips across the U.S. together. He loved to laugh and enjoyed comedies but also WWII history. He always loved flying and being around aircraft attending air shows across the country. For many years he worked on various home-built aircraft in his garage. But he always sacrificed that dream for his family.
Hank is survived by his wife, Lyn Scheible; his children Dana Mordecai (husband Steven Mordecai) and Kevin Scheible (wife Sharon Scheible); grandchildren Marshall Mordecai (wife Allison Mordecai), Emily Mordecai, E. Scheible, and Kaelin Scheible; great-granddaughter, Jane Mordecai; siblings Jan Fletcher, Bill Scheible (wife Yolanda Scheible), Judy Malone (husband Ed Malone), and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leslie Scheible, and many other loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, we ask for you to consider contributing to Cadence International.
