Herman Frederick Bynum passed away at his home in Denton, Texas on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on October 27, 1938, to Al and Pauline Bynum. He graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1956 and was a member of the swim team. He attended Northwestern University from 1956-1957, and Kansas University from 1958-1959 for liberal arts.
In the fall of 1959 Herman enlisted in the United States Army during the Cold War, serving in Germany. From 1963-1979 he was founder and Vice President of Bynum Clothing Co. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He married the love of his life, Gay Lynn Wooten in 1979 & they are members of The First United Methodist Church. After his retirement, Herman enjoyed designing numerous homes in Denton, and hosting family & friends for the holidays.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rev. David Bynum. Herman is survived by his wife of 45 years Gay Lynn, sister-in-law Fredna Weatherread, brother-in-law Michael Wooten (Teresa), cousins Dale Bynum (Melanie), Donna Ritz (Wendall), Cathy Freeman (John), numerous nieces & nephews and many many friends.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 5, 2024, at DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. Don Lee officiating. Herman will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park following the service.
