Obituary

Howard "Pop" Byington, age 79, lost his battle with cancer at home on May 5 th 2014. Howard was born February 6 th 1935 in Herculaneum Missouri, the son of the late Oliver and Flora Byington.

Howard was one of ten children. He has four sisters Mary Peterman of Salem Missouri, Hazel Hodges of Lansing Michigan, Alice Carty of Salem Missouri, and was preceded in death by Sharon Hart of Perry Michigan. He has five brothers Jack Byington of Salem Missouri, Phil Byington of Vermontville Michigan, and was preceded in death by Jim and Johnny Byington both of Salem Missouri and Pete Byington of Belleville Michigan.

Howard married Shirley Miller Byington on November 24 th 1956 in Lansing Michigan. During their 57 years of marriage they had five children daughter Brenda Duncan and husband Bill of Columbia Missouri, daughter Connie Collins and husband Alonzo of Rolla Missouri, son David Byington of Denton Texas, son Danny Byington and wife Amy of Sanger Texas, and daughter Terri Copple and husband Charles of Joplin Missouri. Howard and Shirley also have 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Howard operated Howard's Corner in Rolla Missouri for 30 years before moving to Denton Texas in 1995 to work for his son Danny Byington at B&O Towing.

Howard was an avid coon hunter his entire life and enjoyed raising and training coon hounds. Howard was also a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan. "Pop" was very much a big hearted, family loving, hard working man that never met a stranger and he will be missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday May 10 th 10:00am-11:00am with a service immediately following at DeBerry Funeral Directors 2025 W. University Dr. Denton, Texas. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Denton Animal Shelter Foundation in Howard's name at www.dentonasf.com
