Irma Skelton Battey, 97, went home to be with the LORD on September 7, 2023. A committal service will be held at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 9:00 AM.

Irma was born in Baker, Oregon, on March 29, 1926, to Arnold and Marie Skelton. She lived most of her childhood in Boise, Idaho area, and graduated from Baswell High School in 1944.  She met Hurston Battey while he was stationed at Gowen Field, in Boise Idaho, they married on October 24, 1945. They moved to his home state of Texas and eventually settled in Abilene, Texas, arriving in January of 1953.

She was a homemaker and volunteered in several organizations, the longest with Meals on Wheels.  She served her LORD in many capacities at Abilene Bible Church since September 1964.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise Elliston, and son-in-law, Bill, and grandson Cory and great-grandson Brandt; her son, Robert Battey and daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Battey;  her daughter, Jeanna Kaye Gaines, and son in-law, Bill, and granddaughter, Amber Gibson, and grandson, Casey Nichols and wife Bonnie;  and her two sisters, Velma Masterson, and Sharon Williams, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Hurston Battey, who passed away in 2015.
