Ives June Casey Powell passed away in Denton, Texas on June 23, 2026. She was born in Tucson, Arizona to Thomas Bruton Casey and Nona Belle Miller on July 13, 1939.

June believed deeply in the value of education and devoted herself to learning and furthering her education.

She attended North Texas State University where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society and went on to earn her PhD, accomplishments that reflected her intelligence, discipline and self-determination. She approached scholarship with curiosity and commitment, and those who knew her professionally recognized her dedication to her work.

She was also a gifted artist and an accomplished quilter. Quilting was one of her great passions, combining creativity, precision, patience and extraordinary craftsmanship. Her work earned national recognition, including a national award, an achievement of which she was justifiably proud. She found beauty in color, pattern and careful handwork. Those talents became a lasting expression of her creativity. She lived a full and accomplished life, leaving behind family, friends, colleagues, students, and all those whose lives she touched along the way.

She was a long-time member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Denton, Texas.

She is proceeded in death by her mother, her stepfather E.H. Norwood, her father, her husband Ed Powell and her twin brothers Roy Casey and Troy Casey.

She is survived by her 3 daughters, Vicki Trammell, LeAnn Tivis and her husband Frank, Jennifer Trammell, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, 1 niece, 4 nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.

Her funeral was held on June 29, 2026, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Denton, Texas. 

June was laid to rest in Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas.
