On Monday, September 16, 2024; "Mother McAdams" Izola Christine Haynes McAdams aka "Big Momma" received her wings for eternal reward of her lifelong service to God in Denton,Texas. She was the youngest of four children born in Doyle, Texas to Eddie and Estelle Haynes on February 22,1925. Her family moved and settled in Denton, Texas when she was near the age of 2.
Christine accepted Christ at an early age and united in fellowship at St. Andrew Church of God In Christ organized by her Uncle; the late Bishop FL Haynes who assumed leadership as Bishop of the Texas North East Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction for the Church of God In Christ in 1954. Christine attended Fred Douglas Denton's all black school during segregation. She graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1942 at Fred Douglas High School.
In 1943, Christine married Lonnie James Mc Adams and to this union two daughters were born; Jane Elizabeth and Lutrichia Jeanette "Tish". Christine was a homemaker and wife who later attended Texas Woman's University for Nursing while working as a CNA. In 1969, she later married Arthur Ware for a short time and no children were added. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cake decorating,operating her snow cone stand with her "grands" what she called her grand daughters, traveling both foreign and domestic. She gave back to the community as: A Girl Scout troop leader, Hospice Aide at Ann Haven, Candy Striper at Flow Memorial Hospital, Notary, and collaborating in ministry with Denton Bible Church. Christine loved the Lord and served faithfully at St. Andrew Church of God in Christ in many areas as Director of the Sunshine Band, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary who represented the Texas Northeast Jurisdiction whereby she traveled often to Haiti, the Holyland and became Church Mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents Estelle Alexander Haynes and Eddie Haynes. Husbands Lonnie James McAdams and Arthur Ware; Sisters Lucy Ivory Price and Zelar Mae Woods; Brother Gary Lee Haynes; Nephews Elmer Don Price Jr., James Price Sr., and Jarrin Price; Great nephews Jeffery Price and Gregory Price.
Mother McAdams leaves to cherish her memories: Daughters Jane Elizabeth McAdams, Marin County, CA and Lutrichia Jeanette McAdams of Denton, TX; Granddaughters Veronica Redmon of Arlington, TX and LaShonda McAdams of Denton, TX; Great-Grand Daughters Kennedy Alexa Cannon of LA, Rhyon Camille Franklin and Skyelar Noeloni Hester both of Denton, TX; Niece Carolyn Price- Hughes (Marvin) of Houston, TX; Great Niece(s) Darlene Price, Denton, TX and Caprice Price-Smith (Bruce), Pearland, TX; Great Nephews James Price Jr. (Yvette), Olathe, KS; Terry Price (Kelli ), Katy, TX and a host of cousins (Alexanders, Coopers, Haynes, Lucas, Rodgers) and many family/ friends.
Visitation will be held at St. Andrew Church of God in Christ at 10 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 with a funeral service to begin at 11 AM. Mother McAdams will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery following the service.
