Obituary

Lee Vestal (Randaddy, Danno, Dad)

J. Lee Vestal passed away peacefully in his sleep at home Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Denton, Texas. He was the 2 nd of four brothers born to Pearl Elizabeth and Grover Addison Vestal on November 8, 1919. He was a farm boy and always told stories of picking cotton and riding his horse to school. Lee left home at 15 and traveled to Dallas to attend Drones Business College then SMU. Lee served as Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy (Seebees) in the Pacific theatre in WWII, He met his future wife, Evelyn, at a YMCA dance and it was love at first sight. They were married in 1940 and had two children, Jay Lee Jr. and Janice Victoria.

Lee was employed with Upjohn Pharmaceuticals for 43 years as a Distribution Center Manager. He was loved and admired by all of his employees and was such a hard worker that he was transferred to Memphis, Tennessee where he rose to the top of his career. After retirement, Lee and Evelyn moved back to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and settled in Denton, Texas.

Lee played golf for more than 60 years of his life. If you couldn't find Lee, you knew he was on the greens at Denton Country Club. Golf was his passion. He played almost every day except for Mondays due to the club being closed. Not only did Lee love the game, but he was good at it. He would always say he shot his age. Playing until the age of 95, he walked and carried his own clubs. He has a plaque under the starting clock tower which says, "Lee Vestal #1".

Lee was not only a wonderful golfer, but an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was caregiver to his wife of 67 years, Evelyn, until the day she passed in November, 2007. He stated he would keep joke books on his nightstand to get ready for the next day. One of his favorite jokes was that his social security number was 1. Everyone said he was #1, and that he truly was. He instilled morality, love and kindness into his family and into others so that they can do the same. Lee had a strong faith in the Lord and prayed every day to walk closer to Thee.

He is now walking hand in hand with his Savior and his beloved Evelyn. Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Elizabeth and Grover Addison Vestal, wife, Evelyn Williams Vestal, his brothers, GV Vestal and Jones Ray Vestal.

Adored by his family: son, Jay Lee Vestal Jr. and wife, Eileen Vestal, daughter, Janice Victoria Boudreau and husband Larry Goldberg, brother, Johnny Mac Vestal, grandchildren, Ashley Head and husband, Jason Head, Collin Vestal, Mary Jay Martens and husband, Garrett Martens, Joseph Addison Vestal and wife, Ananda Vestal, great grandchildren, Jackson Lee Head, Hudson Bradford Head, Evelyn Myla Head, and Harriett Lee Martens.
