Jackie Thomas Brown, long time Denton County resident, passed from this life to his eternal life with Jesus Christ his Savior on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Jack was born on September 8, 1934 in Golden, TX to the late Emmett B. Brown and Iris Novelle Wood Brown. At the age of 4 he and his parents moved to the Argyle area, then later settled in Denton, TX.
Jack graduated from Denton High School. He toured much of the Western part of the US on wheat harvests working for Bob Story. Jack served in the Texas National Guard. Through the years he co-sponsored the Denton Youth Baseball Association. He was a member of the Justin Masonic Lodge.
Jack not only drove race cars, but won a National Title in two different categories and later owned a race car, motorcycle team, and a boat racing team. His love of racing was with him throughout his entire life. He was a season tickets holder for all races at the Texas Motor Speedway and enjoyed every minute at the tracks.
Jack was a member of Gateway Baptist Church. He was always ready to help those in need whether he knew them or not.
He is survived by his wife Betty Davis Brown, son Russell Brown, daughter Tamara Brown McCarty, step daughter Rhea Ann McNett; 2 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. Brothers Don Brown and wife Ann, Dale Brown and wife Myrna, nephews Scott Brown, Rodd Brown and Todd Brown, and niece Amy Brown Labay several great nieces and nephews and special cousin Paula Jenkins and a host of extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Vickie and nephew Gregory Tad Brown.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 3-5 PM February 18, 2018 at DeBerry Funeral Home. The service will be 1:00 P.M., Monday, February 19, 2018 at Gateway Baptist Church. Interment will be at Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Mark Wallace, Steve Hollingsworth, Bill Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Tracy Clark, & Bobby Gentry
Honorary Pallbearers: Justin Voluntary Fire Department.
