Obituary

Jacob "Jake" Julian Wright, 84, of Keller, Texas passed away on March 8, 2022 after a long battle with MS. He was born in Vernon, Texas on January 14, 1938, to Jacob Julian and Mary Clayton Wright.

Jake grew up in Vernon, TX where he started to work at a young age doing a paper route and then working in the grocery store.  Jake always liked the unusual and went to work and drove the ambulance that would take you either to the hospital or to the funeral home.  He later became a licensed mortician in Lubbock, TX where he also attended Texas Tech.  He had many stories from this time that he would love to share with anyone who would listen, especially about burying Buddy Holly.  Even though he loved being a mortician he decided to make a career change and graduated from University of North Texas and became a Certified Public Accountant.  Shortly after becoming a CPA, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann, and married on June 24, 1971.  They eventually moved to Oklahoma where he owned his own CPA practice for many years, along with being a professor at the local college.  After selling his practice they moved back to Texas where he began to work for the FDIC where he retired.

Jake was full of life and especially loved making people happy.  He was widely known by all for his smile, constant jokes, and storytelling.  He loved to spend time with his family and entertaining friends.  He had a passion for playing dominoes, golfing, gardening, listening to Willie Nelson, riding on his golf cart, and working on various projects around the house.  He enjoyed many activities from coaching soccer, cheering on the Cowboys, eating home cooking, leading singing at church, and conducting regular Bible classes.  Above all, he was a devout Christian, and was a faithful member of Eastside Church of Christ before having to move to the nursing home.

He is survived by daughter, Juliann Helsel and her husband Robert, of Ft. Worth; daughter-in-law, Donna Wright, of Denton; grandchildren, Paul Wright, MaryBeth McDonald and husband Cameron, Joseph Wright, Alyssa and Zach Helsel; one great-grandchild, Hallie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Wright; son, Bradley Wright; parents, Mary Clayton and Jacob; brother, Paul Wright; and grandson, Jonathan Wright.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 12, 2022, from 2-4 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma.
