As a child, Jackie moved with her parents to Blooming Grove, Texas, when her dad took a high school principal position and mother a hospital administrator position. The family welcomed another member, brother, Stacey Scott Edwards, in 1967. In 1970, the family moved to Moody, TX. Jackie began her public education by attending kindergarten at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor College Child Development Center (where her mother was completing a Business and English degree) and then entered public school at Moody Independent School District.
In 1972, the Edwards Family moved to Austin, TX. Jackie attended Jerry Joslin Elementary, Cunningham Elementary, and Sunset Valley Elementary. As Jackie approached her teens, the family made the move to Round Rock, Texas. She attended school at Round Rock ISD, and became involved in various school activities. Jackie attended Round Rock First United Methodist Church and was active in many church activities.
Jackie graduated from Round Rock High School in 1983. Her dream was to be a teacher and she followed the path of her parents to be an educator and work in the public education field. Jackie attended Temple Junior College from 1983-1985, then transferred to Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State University), in San Marcos, Texas. She graduated in the spring of 1987 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a specialty in reading. In 2006, she furthered her education and earned a Master's degree in Special Education from Southwest Texas State University.
Jackie had immense pleasure to work and serve districts with outstanding colleagues-- Boling, Trinidad, and La Grange ISDs. She taught Kindergarten, first grade, Pre-K, and 7 th - 8 th grade Special Education Language Arts. Jackie especially enjoyed her middle school students and often spoke of the joy she had working with that age group. She served as a Special Education case manager for inclusion, coached UIL spelling and sponsored Student Council. She chose to retire in 2013 after serving 15 years at La Grange Independent School District.
Round Rock, Texas was home and she returned after her retirement to be with her mom, Carol. She treasured their time together. In 2017, Jackie and Carol moved to Temple, Texas to be closer to her nephew and niece. She loved supporting her nephew, John, and niece, Bethany, in all of their many activities. After her mother's passing in 2019, Jackie made the decision to move to Sanger, Texas, to be nearer her cousins, Everett and Sara Armstrong, and aunt, Vickie Armstrong. She was a loving and fun "Jac Jac" to Sophia, Ella and Rett. Her companionship and laughter will be greatly missed.
Jackie spent numerous hours in bible study with many great friends. She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, friends, and church community . Her positivity and tenacity was an inspiration. She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting with friends, listening to music, finding new recipes to try, and talking on the phone for hours. She lived by the motto of Hope, Faith, Love.
