James Edward Bridges, 86 of Pilot Point, passed away September 27, 2026. He was born in Pilot Point on December 1, 1939, to James William and Bertie Lorene Edwards Bridges. He graduated from Pilot Point Gee High School in 1958 and was a graduate of North Texas State University. He served in the US Army from 1963-1969. 

He married Mary Gilliat on August 12, 1967, and are members of St. David of Wales Episcopal Church in Denton. He was employed by Texas Instruments and retired after 32 years. After retirement he enjoyed Ranching and Farming.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors for visitation from 6-8:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026.

A funeral service will be held at St. David Of Wales Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:15 AM. Burial will follow at the Pilot Point Community Cemetery in Pilot Point, TX.

He is survived by wife of 59 years Mary Bridges; Daughter Elizabeth Ertle husband Shane; Sons David Bridges, James Jr wife Dana Bridges; Grandchildren Bradley Swaner, Andrea Bridges, Erica Bridges, Christina Bridges, James Gilliat Bridges; Great Grand Daughter Payten Swaner; Niece Judy Higgs husband Jim; one surviving Sister Margret Moreland husband Roger; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Gill and Husband Randy, Billie Ruth Allen.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to American Cancer Society or Dementia Society of America.
