James Weldon Gregory, age 83, was called home after a life centered around faith, family, hard work, and love. James was born on February 15, 1943, in Aubrey, Texas, to Hershel Alexander Gregory and Willie Pearl Gregory.
James later moved to Denton, Texas, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Glenda, on January 8, 1962. Together they built a beautiful life and loving family. In 1968, James and Glenda moved to Farmers Branch, Texas, where they lived for 33 years. They later moved to Frisco, Texas, where they spent 25 wonderful years and were married for 60 years before Glenda was called home. James later moved to Lufkin, Texas, where he remained until he too was called home on May 27, 2026.
Family was the center of James’s life. He treasured family vacations, gatherings, and the many moments spent together making memories that will last forever. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love and guidance touched generations.
James was especially involved in the lives of his sons and their activities. He spent many years coaching youth sports and supporting his boys in everything they pursued. His kindness, patience, and encouragement impacted not only his family but many young people throughout the years. When he wasn’t spending time with the family, he was on the golf course enjoying his favorite hobby.
James dedicated his career to the airline industry, working as an airline mechanic with Braniff Airways and Blaines Aircraft Upholstery before retiring from Southwest Airlines after many years of service.
He is survived by his sons, Ron Gregory and wife Terrie, and Mark Gregory and wife Mariellen; his grandchildren, Geoff and wife Bailey, Matt, Sarah and husband Richard, Stephanie and husband Austin, and Courtney and husband Tanner; and his great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Savanah, Finn, Hadleigh, Hayes, Ryleigh, Amelia, and Hutton.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ray Cameron, along with several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Glenda; his parents, Hershel Alexander Gregory and Willie Pearl Gregory; and his thirteen siblings, half-siblings include Thomas, Henry, Verna, and Dolsie. His brothers and sisters included Norman, Leslie, Ruby, Lawrence, Jimmie, Mildred, Norma Jean, Rita, and Janice.
James will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, his generous spirit, and the example he set for everyone who knew him. His legacy of love, devotion, and family will continue through the many lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
