Jim loved his Lord and Savior, family, and friends with his whole being.
James Clarence Hook died peacefully in his home, with his beloved wife, Linda, by his side on October 21, 2026.
He was born on October 27, 1938 to Clarence and Mano (O’Neal) Hook. Jim and his big sisters Joyce and Joan grew up on a farm in Eaton, Ohio. He claimed his father kept him too busy to get into trouble. His least favorite chore was selling their vegetables at a roadside stand in the heat of an Ohio summer.
He left his small town for an education at Ohio State University. After graduation, he joined the Air Force, completing his initial training in Lubbock, TX, before spending six years in Del Rio as an instructor pilot flying the T33, T37, and T38.
Next, he moved his growing family to Dallas to begin his career as a commercial pilot. He flew with Braniff Airlines for 21 years, then joined Southwest Airlines where he flew for 10 more years before retiring. Flying was a passion for Captain Hook, and he knew how blessed he was to love his work.
When he wasn’t flying, he was busy with his family and community. Jim was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. He sang in the choir, was a counselor for the youth group for 14 years, and he served on the Hospitality Committee at FUMC where his warm handshake welcomed worshippers for many years.
He coached youth soccer and baseball teams, was a scout leader, and served on the school board.
His children and grandchildren could always find his smiling face in the audience at their sporting events, concerts, and theater performances.
Jim was good with his hands, and spent years building his dream home for his family in Argyle.
Jim and Linda continued their lifetime of travel when they joined the social group, “The Trippers”. Jim took on the role of Planner and spent hours on the computer researching every detail of each itinerary. His favorite trip was Israel, with Switzerland coming in second.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Linda, his sister Joan Haslup, children Deana (Richard Mason), Dawnae, and Derek (Cindy Coxon), grandchildren Hannah (Robert Hollister), Trinity Jonathan Mullins), Marshall, Shea, Brighton, and Hunter, and great grandchildren Jayden, Devin, and Averi.
Jim loved his Lord and Savior, family, and friends with his whole being.
We find comfort knowing he left this world hand in hand with Jesus.
The service to celebrate his life will be held on October 31 at 1:00 pm.
