July 12, 1958 – November 6, 2018
James E. Nave, 60, of Denton, Texas, formerly of Coopersville, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at his home in Texas. He was the son of the late Edward Nave of Norton Shores, Michigan, and Claire Weeber of Grand Haven, Michigan.
After graduating from Coopersville High School in 1977, Jim attended Michigan Technological University, in Houghton, Michigan and earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Electrical Engineering. After graduating from college, Jim worked for Hughes Aircraft Company in Canoga Park, CA as an analog circuit designer. In 1989, he moved to Denton TX to work for Texas Instruments Defense Group. As an analog circuit designer for TI, Jim designed the video front-end for the Javelin Command Launch Unit (CLU) which is currently being fielded by the US Army and saving many US Soldiers' lives. Jim was an excellent designer and well respected among his peers. He gained the status of "Member Group Technical Staff" which was a high honor only given to designers of great achievement. After the buyout of Texas Instruments Defense Group, Jim transferred to the TI commercial group in 1998 where he performed analog circuit designs for integrated circuit chips. During his time with the TI commercial group, Jim received several patents for his design work and traveled across the globe to visit other TI sites worldwide, providing guidance and expertise in product design and performance. Jim was a very skilled circuit designer and was admired by technical staff at TI.
Jim had a love of learning and spent much time researching topics of interest, including science, math, health, medical, music, and religion. He was an accomplished classical guitarist and studied with Guillermo Ferrins at GVSU. Jim loved hiking and running, which began in grade school when he ran early in the morning with his favorite teacher, Mr. John Prichard.
Jim had a love of the great outdoors and enjoyed traveling, camping, and hiking with his family in National and State Parks and Campgrounds, especially Ludington State Park. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and friend and enjoyed sharing his love of hiking with his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his mother, Claire (John) Weeber; two sisters, Patricia Laug and Debra (Steve) Stevens; nieces and nephews, Scott (Margo) Laug, Angie Laug, Brittney Laug, Ashley Timmer, Craig (Alecia) Stevens, Phil Stevens, Emily (Joey) Brower, and Megan Stevens; great nieces and nephews, Olivia and Ethan Laug, Violet Laug, Isla Timmer, Zakry Randall, Lorelei Stevens, and Xylia Stevens; and longtime friends, Mark Heath, Tony and Margaret Hill, Michelle White-Heon, Tom Bellew, and Larry Taylor, and many other friends and relatives from Michigan and Texas. He was preceded in death by another longtime friend, Butch Steffes.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. at Life Stream Church, 6561 Lake Michigan Drive, Allendale, Michigan.
