John (Jay) Rufus Jones was born on August 27, 1950, in Denton, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Rufus Jones and Emma Louise King Jones.

Jay is survived by his beloved son Garrett John Jones; his sisters Dorothy Clare Lanham and Betty Louise Garrett; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Jay loved playing the guitar and keyboard and occasionally performing at events. Jay also loved dogs and volunteered his dog grooming services at Noah's Ark Animal Shelter.

A memorial service will be held at DeBerry Funeral Directors on December 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

Immediately following, a graveside service will be held at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Denton.

Afterwards, family and friends will gather at the North Point Café in Denton to share memories, stories and a few tall tales.
