Jay Patrick Powell, 52, of Denton, passed away on January 6, 2023, from an aortic dissection.

Jay was born in Denton on March 7, 1970, to C.T. Pat and Rebecca Powell.  He graduated from Denton High School in 1988 and went on to study accounting at the University of North Texas, where he received his Master's in 1993.

His law enforcement career with the Lewisville Police Department began in January of 1994.  He was both the Valedictorian and Distinguished Recruit of his basic academy class.  During his 29-year career with the department, he received numerous honors and earned multiple service awards.  In 2014, he was promoted to Assistant Police Chief.  In that role, he oversaw the Support Operations Bureau of the police department, supervising officers in Training, Traffic, Criminal Investigations, Personnel, Community Resources, and the budget.

He met his wife, Rhonda, in 1990 during the first week of pre-season band at UNT and they were married in February of 1996.  Together was their favorite place to be.  Their shared interests were many, but a love for animals and for Halloween topped the list.  Jay was never one to shy away from a costume.  In fact, he delighted in entertaining the 1,000+ trick-or-treaters at their home each year as The Chainsaw Man.

He had a servant's heart and was a man of character and integrity in every aspect of his life.  Time and time again his actions proved that he would gladly, bravely, and without hesitation come to the aid of any friend, neighbor, family member, or stranger in need.

His funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday the 13 ^th at Cross Timbers Church, 1119 Hwy 377 in Argyle, and is open to the public.  The funeral will not include a graveside service.

Jay is survived by his wife, Rhonda, his mother, Becky, and his father, Pat.
