January 2, 1926 – May 18, 2017
Jean Hartline, 91, died on May 18, 2017 after many years of complications from a stroke she suffered in 2000. Jean was born on January 2, 1926 in Decatur, TX. The O'Brien family moved to Denton when Jean was a young teen. She graduated from Denton High School and Texas Woman's University with a degree in music education. During her time at TWU, Jean met and married A.D. Hartline, and they had three daughters. A.D. passed away in 2014.
Jean was a musical prodigy and began piano lessons when she was five years old. It was soon discovered that Jean had perfect pitch and could also play any song by ear. She would often entertain her family by playing "Kitten on the Keys" and other favorites. As she grew up in Denton, Jean was often asked to play for weddings and funerals of friends and family. She played the organ at First Christian Church for 23 years and would always play one of her favorite songs "Greensleeves", during interludes. Jean was also a piano teacher and taught many young, aspiring pianists to play.
Jean is survived by one sister, Gail Storrie (Jim), brother in law, Jimmy Hartline, three daughters, Margaret Adamson and husband Rick, Patricia White and husband Bill, Susan Schoenthal and husband Eddie She had ten grandchildren, Jeremy Deckard (Kelly), Candace Deckard, Chris Deckard (Missy), Doug, Scott Deckard (Cindy), Kelly Wooten, Cassie Longoria (Daniel), Katie Holley (Matt), Josh (Felicia), Ben (Lacy) Schoenthal. She had fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made to First Christian Church or Denton Community Food Bank.
Celebration of Life visitation will be at Patricia's house, 1905 Burning Tree, Denton, 76209 on Sunday May 21, from 3-5 P.M.
Funeral will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 22, 2017 at First Christian Church, 1203 Fulton Street Denton, Texas
