Obituary

Some people search their whole life for their passion, for their purpose.  Not Jeanne Jones, she knew what she liked, she knew her purpose, and she pursued both till her death.

Jeanne Yvonne Schroeder Jones, 91, passed away early Sunday morning, June 6, 2021, quietly at her ranch home in Denton, TX.  Her granddaughter Jacee, Jacee's husband Cory, and her daughters Judy and Jana were by her side as she passed from this world to the next.

Jeanne is survived by her daughters Judy Cooper (husband Chris of Eureka, MT) and Jana Amyx (husband Jim of Spring, TX); Daughter-in-law Judy Jones of Denton, Texas, grandson Jim (Courtney of Spring, TX), and granddaughters Julie Cobb (husband Jason of Spring, TX), Jacee Kiefer (husband Cory of Denton, TX), Jena Ross (husband Brandon of Spring, TX), Christa Cooper of Chandler, AZ, and Crystal Clark (husband Phillip of Valley View, TX).  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Landon Boland, Claire Amyx, Ryan Amyx, Gracie Clark, Elyssa Clark, Hayden Ross, Nathan Cobb, Cullen Ross, Charlie Cobb, Sage Kiefer, and Bree Kiefer.  Jeanne is also survived by her sister, Dannie Moore of Ft. Worth, TX; half-brother Edwin Schroeder of Pensacola, FL; and half-Sisters Debbie Collins of Anderson, SC, and Demia Hershman of McKinney, TX.  She is pre-deceased by her husband Robert W. "Bob" Jones, Sr. and her son Robert W. "Bobby" Jones, Jr.

Jeanne was born January 19, 1930, in Denton, TX, to Edward and Alice Schroeder, owners of the 7up Bottling Co. in Denton, TX, at that time.  She went to Stonewall Jackson Elementary, Denton Jr. High School, and graduated from Denton Sr. High School in 1947.

What were Jeanne's passions?  She liked Speech & Drama classes, productions, and competitions.  As a high school student, she learned the art from Mrs. Opal Hall.  Later, she helped teach her daughters and their friends – debate, extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation – solo and duo, one-act plays, and persuasive speaking.

She loved to read.  She had a library to rival none other including her favorite book "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell.  In fact, at one time, Jeanne worked for the Denton County Library with her friend and librarian, Joella Orr.  Tragically, her library of books was lost during a home remodel, including her extensive collection of cookbooks.

Jeanne loved "Big Band Music" and the Jitter Bug.  She loved to listen to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and the rest of the Rat Pack.  In fact, she was listening to big band music as she passed from this world.

Later in her life, Jeanne loved to go to livestock shows and rodeos.  With her husband, Bob, they supported many local agricultural groups and clubs.  Her favorite activity at a show – easy…watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren show their animals – lambs, pigs, heifers and steers of every breed.

Jeanne loved the color, yellow!  Her favorite yellow items – without a doubt - yellow roses and yellow daisies!

Jeanne LOVED the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.  She watched EVERY game on television plus visited the Dallas Cowboy AT&T Stadium several years ago.  She happily celebrated her 90 th birthday at the Dallas Cowboy practice facility, The Star!

And she loved cats – her favorites cats were Gigi and Tiger.  Jeanne will actually be buried with her beloved Gigi, and Tiger has now been adopted by her friend Karla Blackburn Alexander.

But most of all, Jeanne loved her friends and family!  Over the years, she kept up with her high school friends, seeing one of her best friends, Marilyn Dickey, just a few weeks before her death.  In high school, Jeanne was a majorette with the Denton Sr. High School Band for all 3 years of high school.  She was in the National Honor Society, Society Editor of the Denton Sr. High School newspaper "The Horseshoe", in the Acapella Choir, active in Speech and Drama classes and productions, and a member of the Sub Debs Sorority.  She mentioned often and fondly her Sub Deb group and their head lunch coordinator (later in life) Neal Leath.  While most of her high school friends preceded her in death, there are three remaining – Marilyn Dickey of Austin, TX, Joyce Davis Bishop of Lubbock, TX, and Patsy Monroe Davis Vestal of Haslett, TX.

And her purpose as well as her passion – her family.  Jeanne loved her family – children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren.  When younger, she traveled to see her children living throughout the nation – Arizona, Illinois, Colorado, Tennessee, and all over Texas.  Over the years, she supported and watched (in person and from afar) speech competitions, sorority inductions, soccer games, baseball games, hockey games, dance competitions, ice skating competitions, softball games, and livestock show competitions. In honor of her family,  Jeanne supported the Denton County Livestock Association, the Blue Ribbon Club, and the Denton FFA Alumni.  She was an honorary member of the Denton FFA Alumni and the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.

Jeanne is now joined with the love of her life, Bob, whom she met when he returned from service in WWII and then married on July 20, 1947.  Yes, she married right after her high school graduation.
