Obituary

Jeffery Wayne Long was born on December 25, 1956, in Decatur, Texas, to Doyle Wayne and Ema Lu Williams Long. He died September 26, 2024, in Justin, Texas, after a long illness.

Jeff lived most of his life in Ponder and graduated from Ponder High School in 1975. He then attended Ryder Technical School graduating with certifications as a diesel mechanic. He worked for many companies throughout his career either driving a truck or working as a mechanic.
Jeff dearly loved his children and adored his grandchildren. Before the progression of his illness, he never missed any of Tyler's basketball games. Some of his happiest times were picking up his grandsons after school and taking them to Bev's for snacks. He also loved his early morning visits to Bev's where he could hang out and talk with friends.

Another of Jeff's pastimes was watching his favorite old television shows: The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, Hee Haw, and Petticoat Junction.
Jeff became a Christian at an early age, and his faith never wavered even in some dark and difficult times in his life. During his last months in the nursing home, he was known to witness to anyone who would listen. He often worried about the faith of those around him, friends and enemies alike. He wanted to make sure everyone went to heaven.

Jeff was very loved and will be dearly missed by many people, but we rejoice knowing his pain and suffering are now over, and his poor body and mind are now made whole again.

Jeff was predeceased by his parents, Doyle and Ema Lu Long.

Jeff is survived by son Josh and wife Tina Long; son Jason Long; son Steve Long; daughter Taryn and husband David Petty; daughter Boni and husband Devon Johnson.
He is also survived by grandchildren Tyler Long; Noah and Liam Long and Kyla Farrar; Mason Long; Ty and Jax Petty; Ema, Colt, James, and Lainey Johnson.   He is also survived by sister Amanda and husband Bobby Henry; sister Wonaka and husband Charles Williams; brother Calvin and wife Ellen Long; two very special aunts LaVerne Williams and Ruby Nell Wortman; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial service is Friday, October 4th at 10 am at First Baptist Ponder. A private family burial will immediately follow.
