IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerome Raymond
Smith
August 30, 1930 – October 22, 2016
Jerry Smith, 86, of Denton, TX passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2016. Jerry was born on August 30, 1930 in Chicago, IL. to parents Ray and Angeline Smith.
After graduating high school Jerry joined the United States Army completing his commitment of 4 years and was honorably discharged. He moved to Denton to pursue his career as a Radiology Technologist graduating from Parkland Memorial Hospital School of Radiology. After graduation he began working at Flow Memorial Hospital serving as Director of Radiology for many years. While working at the hospital he met the love of his life Barbara (a neonatal ICU Registered Nurse) thru a mutual friend, Cliff Glasgow. They were happily married for 51 years before his wife's death 2 years ago.
During their entire married life they loved traveling in their RV and the Texas Rangers baseball are what they enjoyed the most. They have traveled to over 40 states and several places in Canada. During these many travels they made a multitude of friends and traveled frequently to visit with them, sometimes camping in the friends driveways and many times in campgrounds. After retiring and selling their home, they became full time RV'ers continuing to see parts of the unknown for over 11 years, settling down in Mission, TX and living there for over 10 years. Many of the friends they had met from up north would travel to south Texas in attempting to get away from the cold winter. They had all finally become "one of those people"..... Well known winter Texans. When his wife's health began declining, they decided to move back to Denton to be closer to their family and making their home at The Vintage for several years.
Surviving Jerry are step-children Gary and Joyce Hunter, Judy Hunter Patman, Brad and Joye Hunter, four amazing grandchildren and seven loving great-grandchildren, Jeremy Hunter and wife Tracy with their children, James, Catie and Beckie; Judy Hunter and son Keanu, Justin Patman and wife Amanda with their children Brenden, Tanner and Caysen, Jarrett Patman, a member of the United States Air Force.
