IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry Phillip
Adams
January 10, 1933 – February 10, 2024
Jerry Phillip Adams of Corinth, Texas passed away February 10, 2024, at the age of 91. Preceded in death by his parents Marvin & Ima Lee (Lancaster) Adams and his sister Barbara Ann Merritt of Texarkana.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Claudia Adams, Corinth, Texas, and two children: son, Paul Adams and wife Konnie of Lafayette, Louisiana and Milan, Tennessee; daughter, Judy Curran and husband Monte of Argyle, TX; five grandchildren, Brandon, Adam, Kenny and wife Tara, Sarah and husband Abe, Ava and four great-grandchildren. Jerry was affectionately known as "Pappy" by his grandchildren.
Jerry was born in Overton, Texas, and lived in Good Pine and Arcadia, Louisiana. Eventually his father began working in the oil industry moving the family to south Louisiana.
Jerry met the love of his life, Claudia, while attending First Baptist Church in Crowley where he first saw her singing in the choir. Several years later, Jerry received his bachelor's degree from University of Louisiana-Lafayette. He got married and was drafted into the Army in 1955. He served a total of six years active/inactive duty. After leaving the military and moving back to Crowley, he worked in the oil field. Four years later, he and Claudia moved to Lafayette where Jerry began working in oil field accounting until retirement. They continued singing in the church choir at Emmanuel Baptist Church for many decades. Jerry also served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon for a time. They were married for 68 years.
His friends and family remember Jerry's joyful spirit. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to him. Aside from spending time with his family, he loved to read about history, economics, political issues, and sports. Collecting numerous binders of articles and clippings over the years that he felt deserved archiving. We always joked with him that he should have been a newspaper editor.
Jerry also spent time hunting, golfing, and playing tennis. He was also a frustrated golfer, always striving to hit spectacular shots off the tee. One of Jerry's brothers-in-law shared a rumor circulated in the golfing community for many years in the Lafayette area. A mail carrier was driving his route near one of the municipal courses, when his vehicle was nailed by an errant tee shot. Rumor has it that Jerry finally hit that spectacular shot!
Catching largemouth bass was his favorite sport. He enjoyed competing in bass clubs with friends and Claudia. Toledo Bend and Henderson Bayou were among his favorite spots. Jerry was also a huge college football fan and spent much time discussing his favorite teams but most of all he was an avid LSU Tigers Fan! He was an encyclopedia of information on college teams and coaches.
Jerry always managed to make people around him feel important, honored, and loved always speaking highly of others, especially his cousins and old friends. He maintained and treasured close friendships from his school days. He always saw the good in others setting a wonderful example for his family. His humility, strong character and cheerful attitude will be missed.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
