Obituary

Jerry Brice Borchardt was born on November 1, 1939, to J.T. Borchardt and Margaret Jones Borchardt in Little Elm, Texas. He spent his early years in Little Elm with his 2 brothers and 3 sisters before moving to Krum, Texas in the eighth grade. While he did not realize it at the time it was in Krum that he would meet and later marry a fellow classmate, Jonita Boyd.

Jerry and Jonita were married on July 25, 1959, at Plainview Baptist Church by Reverend Al Murdock and brother-in-law of Jonita. Born into this marriage were Margaret Elaine Borchardt of Lewisville, Texas; Joan Borchardt Padgett of Allen, Texas and Eric Brice Borchardt of Krum, Texas.

Upon completion of high school Jerry entered a local technical school where he earned a technical services degree. He worked first for Jack Mitchell repairing and servicing appliances before opening his own television repair business which he successfully operated for 20 years and created a loyal following of customers. Jerry was very good at his craft as he not only supported a family of 5 on his one income but also applied his business sense and know-how of cattle, which he learned from his own father growing up. Jerry owned, operated, and managed the day-to-day tasks of his own herd of cattle on the land he and his wife owned.

Another local appliance business owner, Charlie McNeill, had been trying for years to get Jerry to come work for him, he agreed to join forces with Mr. McNeill and operated his television repair business out of the McNeill's Denton location. Jerry and Charlie had this partnership for 7 years until Jerry decided that he wanted to explore other avenues of interest.

In the late 1990's Jerry was bored and looking for something else to keep him busy. Carl Anderson, a longtime friend asked him if he would like to come work at Bill Utter Ford. Carl knew Jerry's work ethic and that he would be an asset to the dealership because he not only was able to quickly build relationships with people, and that people trusted him and knew he would always be honest with them. For the next 23 years Jerry took on the role of coordinating drivers in the dealer trade department and grilling for customers and employees at company events and UNT tailgates. He enjoyed working for Bill Utter Ford but made the decision in 2020 that he needed to once again retire and take care of Jonita who was in declining health.

Jerry loved his family and friends more than anything. He and Jonita loved traveling and were especially fond of spending time in Lake City, Colorado where he taught his kids and grandkids his love of trout fishing. He was also a huge Texas Rangers fan and was excited when they finally won game 7 of the World Series on his birthday!

He faithfully took care of Jonita until her passing on December 5, 2022. Jerry continued to live in the home he and Jonita shared until his death on December 16, 2023.

Jerry is survived by many loved ones; daughter Elaine Borchardt, daughter Joan Padgett and husband David, son Eric Borchardt and wife Angela, six grandchildren Eric Padgett, Coleby Borchardt, William Borchardt, Lindsey Harvey, Rheagan Swanson, Bryce Borchardt, and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Jonita, parents J.T. and Margaret Borchardt, brothers Luther Borchardt, and Freddy Borchardt, and sisters Amanda Walker, Shirley Griffith, and Peggy Borchardt.
