IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jimmie Gene
Channell
June 16, 1947 – October 20, 2017
Jimmie Channell, 70, of Denton passed away on October 20, 2017 in Denton, Texas. She was born on June 16, 1947 in Altus, Oklahoma to James and Margene Carroll.
She was raised by her grandparents, Viola Mae Parsley (Granny) and Allen Parsley as a child along with her older brother, Glenn Hanna and younger sister, Brenda Abraham. Jimmie had two younger sisters who were put in foster homes and later adopted. She married at the age of 17 and finished high school. She moved to Arlington, Texas with her husband, Skip. Her daughter, Michelle was born on August 26, 1970. Due to her abusive relationship with her parents, Jimmie was determined to raise her daughter in a safe and loving home. Later, Jimmie and Skip adopted an infant boy named Jeffry. After the death of her husband Skip in 1982, she lost her son Jeffry to SIDS, only 3 months later. Jimmie remained a single parent to Michelle. Michelle married in 1989. Her grandson, Brantley Pierce was born, November 19, 1997 and grandson, Casey Caul was born on August 1, 2007. She continued to surround them with loving care. In 2015 when her daughter Michelle passed away unexpectedly, she continued to press on for these two boys. Jimmie was an important part of their lives and there was no doubt that her life centered around both Pierce and Caul. Jimmie loved to read to her grandsons, and watch movies with them.
Jimmie enjoyed Keno night. She formed a close relationship with the Keno girls and they not only provided a fun night once a month playing Keno but also built a close bond of emotional support. A quilt was given to Jimmie on her 70 th birthday when the group surprised her with a birthday party.
She is survived by her grandsons, Pierce Hearne of Round Rock, Tx. and Caul Hearne of Aubrey, Tx. Son in law, Brant Hearne and wife Sara Shelton of Aubrey, brother Glenn Hanna of Oklahoma, Sister Brenda Abraham of Abilene, Tx.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman "Skip" Channell, son, Jeffry Channell and daughter, Michelle D'Ann Hearne.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be at a later date at Laural Land Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
