Jimmie "Jim" Darold Hughes passed away on October 3, 2014 in Denton, Texas at the age of 85. Jim was born on January 24, 1929 in Jenkins, Kentucky to Gabe and Ruth Stanley Hughes.
Jim grew up in Darwin, Virginia and graduated from Clintwood High School in 1948. Following a tour of duty in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1953 as a Staff Sergeant he attended Court Reporting School in Amarillo, Texas. He moved to Greenville in 1957 and then to Denton, Texas in 1969 enjoying a 22 year career with the 158th District Court, retiring in 1991. He married Vera Wheeler on September 03, 1976 in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was a member of the Stony United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at DeBerry Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be held on Monday, at 2:00 PM at Stony United Methodist Church in Stony, Texas. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
Jim is survived by his wife Vera, sons; Dennis and Crag Hughes, stepsons; Mike Wheeler, Max Wheeler and stepdaughter Cheryl Wheeler Roberts, eight grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Donald and Jerry Ray Hughes, four sisters Zella Stanley, Pauline Boggs, Juanita Campbell and Sue Mullins and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean and brother Gabe Jr.
