Joan Meyer's Obituary

Joan Meyer, 67, of Denton, Texas, died at home on Monday, June 17, 2019 under the loving care of her daughter, Joy Bauer, and close friend Mirian Robertte.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The service will be held on Tuesday June 25, at 10:00 A.M. both at DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Drive, Denton Texas 76201.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Hanrahan, of Keansburg, New Jersey, and her first husband and father of her children, Jay Phillips, of Maricopa, Arizona, whom she called the love of her life.

Joan is survived by her siblings, Robert Krause, Betty Krause, Philip Hanrahan, and Barbara Hanrahan, and her loving children, Joy Bauer, of Denton, Texas, and Joe Phillips, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Robert Bauer III and Nicholas Bauer, both of Phoenix, Arizona, and Emily Phillips, Troy Phillips, and Trent Phillips, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A Brooklyn girl by birth, she settled in New Jersey after marriage to Jay and raised her children there. The family moved to Arizona in the early 80s, where Joan rose through the ranks at Bank of America and became a VP in the consumer credit division. After leaving BoA, she found her true calling working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, where her greatest pleasure was helping others through emergency situations and natural disasters. She accepted a long-term deployment to Biloxi, Mississippi to help with shelter and emergency housing for those affected by Hurricane Katrina, which she considered one of the highlights of her career. Until the day she left us, she was a tireless advocate for those in need, working until the very end of her race at the National Processing Service Center, or NPSC, in Denton, Texas, where she leaves behind many respected and treasured coworkers.

Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. ISAIAH 40:31
