Joe Williams Brooks, 92, passed away on August 14, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on September 12, 1924 to Lee and Beulah (Brown) Brooks in Justin, Texas.
Joe grew up in Ponder, TX. During World War II, he joined the Army Air Corps and became a P40 fighter pilot.
After the war, he graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Math and Physics. He taught school in Ponder, TX before he went to work for the US government as a civilian employee. He started at Shephard AFB (Wichita Falls, TX) then moved to Randolph AFB (San Antonio, TX), where he retired in 1984. While working for the government, he also was a USAF reservist and retired as a Lt Col.
Not one to sit idle, he then started his own business. He ran Windcrest Trophies for over 25 years until well into his late 80's.
He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Jo Popp (Tom) and Brenna Lynn Howell (John) both of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Cindy Bonds, Lauren Popp, Chelsea Howell and Kayce Jo Cortinas; and one great-grandchild, Kaley Bonds.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; wife, Jo Ethel Brooks; sister, Jewel Blankenship; brothers, Homer, James, Robert Lee and Bill Brooks.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
