Joe Howard, 83, of Denton passed away on April 28, 2020. He was born on June 19, 1936 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Walter and Opal (Hepler) Howard.
Joe attended Linden-McKinley High School in Columbus, Ohio. In 1958 he received his Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and his M.S from Southern Connecticut State College. Joe met his wife Frannie Flynn at OSU and they were married on June 6, 1959. After graduating from OSU, he joined the US Army, where he served for 20 years. Joe was stationed at numerous places around the world including a tour in Vietnam. While in the Army, he received the Joint Service Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster among other commendations.
After retiring from the Army in 1979, the family moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked at the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management. In 1983, he and Frannie moved to the Colorado Springs area where he started working in the local real estate market. While in Colorado, he was an active member of many non-profit organizations, including president of Sertoma and president of Tri-Lakes Cares. Five years ago, Joe and Frannie moved back to the DFW area to be closer to their family. Joe enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, and was an avid poker player.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frannie, sons Jeffrey (Sharon), Joseph, Stephen (Wendy) and Walter (Teresa), 8 grandchildren, sisters Helen Lutz and Sondra Hornbeck, brother Michael Howard (Elizabeth) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday May 5, 2020 at 10:30 am at St. Mark Catholic Church located at 6500 Crawford Road, Argyle, Texas 76226. Masks are required. Please bring your own.
