Joe Willis Northcutt, age 79, of Allen, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026. Born February 26, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, Joe was the beloved son of Earl Dean Sr. and Doris Nell Northcutt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dean Northcutt Jr.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carolyn Tanck Northcutt, and their four children: Ben Northcutt (Rachel), Rachel Quisenberry (Hank), Rebecca Butler (Brian), and Katie LaQuey (Trey). He was the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren—Allen Butler, Courtney Johnson (Chad), Elizabeth O’Dell (Devin), Charity Bentley (Christopher), Olivia Northcutt, Ryan Quisenberry, Brooke Butler, Nick Northcutt, Eric Quisenberry, Avery LaQuey, Landon LaQuey, and Beckett LaQuey—and the great-grandfather of seven: Adeline, Gracelynn, Emberlee, and Levi O’Dell; Carli and Callie Rae Johnson; and Colbie Bentley. Joe also cherished two “semi-adopted” grandchildren, Alden Needham and Loren Wallace, along with many extended family members and friends.
A 1969 graduate of Baylor University, Joe’s life was filled with music, faith, and service. He sang for many years with the Plano Civic Chorus and as a performer at Macaroni Grill, where he entertained guests for two decades before retiring in 2020. Known affectionately as the “Singing Sub,” Joe shared his joy of music with students while substitute teaching in Allen and McKinney ISDs. He also joyfully greeted customers and friends with a song while working at North Texas Sticker Station, and later brightened the halls of memory care as the resident door greeter who sang to everyone entering or leaving.
Joe jokingly referred to himself as a “go-fer do-fer” as he maintained the family’s rental properties—a reflection of his servant heart and tireless devotion to those he loved. He was known for his powerful voice, deep love for Jesus, and unshakable pride in his family. Joe found joy in song, laughter, time with loved ones, ice cream, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. Above all, Granddaddy Joe will be remembered for his generous spirit and the way he used his gifts to bless everyone he met.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1801 W. Plano Pkwy, Plano, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., with burial afterward at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney.
Flowers may be delivered to Messiah Lutheran Church on the morning of March 9. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church to support a musical memorial in Joe’s honor.
