It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe B. Ritz beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. Joe was born to Rodolfo Ritz and Frances Ceballos Ritz on August 20, 1943, in Taylor, Texas. He departed from us on August 14, 2026, at the age of 82 in Denton, Texas after a courageous twelve year battle with Cancer.

Joe grew up in Meadow, Texas a small West Texas town. He married his wife Dolores Magana Ritz on January 20, 1965 in Denton, Texas where they resided until his death.

Joe's family was the centerpiece of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores Ritz, his loving children Brenda K. Ritz (Edward Lane), Alice Vasquez (Trinidad), Rebecca Hobon (Brandon), and Michael Ritz. He also leaves behind cherished memories with his grandchildren: Andrew Juarez (Shawnya), Jonathan Juarez (Jessica Jester), Jessica Harradine (Brandon), Monica Juarez, Chase Papazian (Eliana), Grant Papazian, Madelyn Ritz, and Ryan Ritz, along with his great-grandchildren: Meya Juarez, Bree Juarez, Vaeda Harradine, Jackson Papazian, and one more on the way. He is further survived by his beloved siblings: Lola Perez, Mary Perez, Gilbert Ritz, Felipe Ritz,  Luis Ritz, and Meliton Torres along with numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Joe retired from Trinity Industries and said that the best part of retirement was not having to go to work. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed a memorabilia collection that grew each year. He also leaves behind his famous sock collection that he enjoyed showing off.

Joe's wisdom and life experiences shaped him into a remarkable man who inspired those fortunate enough to know him. His strong work ethic, resilience, witty sense of humor, and kindness will be remembered by all who crossed his path. He had a zest for life, always wore a smile, and had a passion for gardening and painting. His favorite pastime was being surrounded by family and friends and especially enjoyed the holiday season with them.

Joe's legacy will live on through the love he cultivated within his family and the community. His laughter, stories, and unwavering support will be deeply missed.

Special thanks to our aunt, Lydia Jobe, for her love and assistance during our father's lengthy illness. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Jain, Molly, the Texas Oncology Team, and VNA Hospice for their compassion, care and support.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and services will be held Monday, August 24, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton, with Senior Pastor Stephani Reed-Meyer officiating. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating his life and the cherished memories they hold dear.
