Obituary

Johnny Garrett of Dallas, TX, formerly of New York, NY and Fordyce, AR departed this world on Monday morning, August 18, 2025. He was 59 years old. Throughout his life, Johnny worked in many capacities from waiting tables in popular eateries in New York and Dallas, to selling real estate, to even driving Uber and Lyft routes. His greatest passion and achievement, however, was writing and producing his independent film, Chasing the Dragon. Johnny would certainly list this as one of the high points of his life.

Johnny was preceded in death by one year by his other highest point in life, his mother, Willierene Garrett. She was Johnny's rock, and he has struggled mightily over the past year drifting in the world without her comfort and care. Johnny is survived by his father, Mickey Garrett of Greenbrier, AR, his sisters Gretchen Morgan of Greenbrier, AR, and Priscilla (Pete) Southall of Greenbrier, AR. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Colton (Emily) Morgan, Allie Morgan, Garrett (Shelby) Morgan, Bailey Morgan, Madelynne Southall, Morgan Southall, Mia Beth Southall, Mickey Southall, and Magnolia Southall, and great-niece Pippa Morgan and great-nephews Brady Morgan and Kye Morgan.

The family would like to thank DeBerry Funeral Home and crematory in Denton, TX for their care and assistance with Johnny's final interment which will take place in Greenbrier, AR with a small, family-only gathering. For those who would like to memorialize Johnny in some way or express condolences to the family, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Johnny's name to Seeds of Love, LLC, 12 Primrose Ln., Greenbrier, AR 72058. They are the caring people who provided for Johnny's mother in her final days, and he held a special place for the folks at "Seeds" in his heart. We know that the Lord will grant peace and comfort to the family at this time, and we pray the same for everyone else who knew Johnny as a friend.

"…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." - Romans 10:9-10
