Obituary

Our dear friend John Allsup was called to heaven on April 2nd 2018. He was a special friend to all who met him and a loving Husband to his wife Kathie, his high school sweetheart. They met in Harlingen High school in 1976 in Ms. Cohen's Algebra class. He sat behind her in class and bothered her until she agreed to a date. After high school they both attended separate colleges. In 1982 they wed and were happily married for 36 years. Their love was unconditional.

John was born in Monmouth, Illinois on April 4th 1959 to Maxine and Edgar Allsup. John and family moved to Harlingen, Texas in 1963. The family owned and operated the Holiday Vista Motel in Harlingen on North 77 Sunshine strip. Growing up & working in a motel was where John got his initial experience and desire for the lodging industry, which continued throughout his life. Because of his experience in the numerous tasks of operating a property he was always appreciative and respected everyone's value.

John spent his youth playing baseball on the local Harlingen little league teams and was a consistent player selected on the all-star teams. Later he turned his attention in athletics to tennis. In High school John become an accomplished District tennis player for the Cardinals.

Upon graduation in 1977 he attended Southwest Texas State University. While furthering his education he worked in local hotels in San Marcos part time. He obtained an associate's degree from Southwest Texas and decided to wed his lifelong love, Kathie, and enter the hotel business in Austin, Texas. A few of his notable management locations included the Austin Wyndham, Historic Driscoll Hotel & the Lakeway Resort. While managing the Wyndham he hosted the Dallas Cowboys training camps for 3 consecutive years.

After many years in the lodging industry he eventually took a high level management position with Aimbridge Hospitality and managed several of their properties across the country. He was soon promoted to Vice President of Operations at Aimbridge Hospitality in Dallas, Texas. He was very devoted to his job and highly respected by his peers.

He loved his friends & family, enjoyed a great round of golf, salt water fishing, Salt Lick BBQ, a cozy local bar and especially enjoyed a good happy hour with friends. He regularly attended the 11 A.M. church service at the 407 & was always quick with his wit. He was very caring and charitable to those less fortunate, often donating to those in need. The "Cowboys" were his all time favorite Professional sports team & he never wavered in his support. As season ticket holders Kathie & John would often tailgate at the Cowboy stadium with their close friends. He was loved, respected and will be sorely missed. Until we meet again.
