John Thomas Conner, 73, of Denton passed away on February 18, 2021 in Denton. He was born on March 1, 1947 in Dalhart, Texas to Harry and Elizabeth (Atkinson) Conner.

He was raised in Dalhart and attended Dalhart High School. John was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1967 - 1969, and served one year in Vietnam as a mechanic specialist four in the 1st Infantry Division. He was in the Army Reserve until 1973 and lived in Amarillo and Waco after his service.
During high school, John began learning the trade of a flooring contractor. He taught each of his sons the trade and they worked with him at different times. He enjoyed being self-employed, traveling and working in many different states. He put down roots in Denton in 1990, partnering in business with his youngest son Shawn for 23 years until he retired at 67 when his health began to fail.

He enjoyed visiting with friends and family in his retirement. John loved his two beagles, Buddy and Lucky, who we know met him in heaven when he arrived.

He is survived by his sons, Jonathan Conner and wife Betsy of Cleburne, Texas, and Shawn Conner and wife Jennifer of The Colony, Texas; brothers, Danny Conner and wife Dee of Houston, Texas, and Jerry Conner and wife Carnetta of Amarillo, Texas; granddaughter, Ashley; and grandsons, Justin, Coltin and Bradley.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 11 AM until 12:30 PM at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Denton, Texas.
