Obituary

On April 11, 2012, John Clay Johnson passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family in his home after a battle with cancer. He was born October 7, 1952 to the late John C. Johnson and Doris Bean Johnson. After spending his childhood and most of his adult life in Belen, NM, Clay settled in Denton, TX in 2003. In May 2011, he joyfully married Terri Macsas Johnson, who survives.

Clay was known as a unique and lively character. He was a loving and generous man; strangers often became friends, and friends became family.

He is survived by his son Matt Johnson of Denton, TX; daughter and son-in-law Jessica & Jon Withers of Forney, TX; wife Terri Macsas Johnson of Denton, TX; mother-in-law Darlene Hallmark of Denton, TX; stepsons, Chris Payne and wife Charlene of Ennis, TX, Scott Payne and wife Jeanine of Palmer, TX, Joseph Payne and wife Lindsey of Farmersville, TX; sister, Ann Srubek of Leesburg, VA; and brother John Cliff Johnson and wife Pat of Grand Junction, CO. After marrying Terri, Clay happily and with great privilege became the grandfather to Ethan Payne, Alexis Payne & Amberly Payne.

A memorial service will be held at the DeBerry Funeral Home, Denton, TX at 11 AM on Saturday, April 14. Reception to follow at the family home.
