John Anthony Lara, Sr., 59, of Justin, Texas passed away on January 21, 2022, at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton after a long battle with Covid related complications.

He was born to Juan and Rosa Lara on October 15, 1962, in Laredo, Texas and grew up in Dallas, Texas.

He was a professional painter for many years before his accident which forced him to retire.

He loved to read and have deep conversations with anyone and everyone. He never met a stranger; they were just someone he hadn't befriend yet.

He was a good-hearted person always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a loving and caring father, a brother who always had your back, an advice-giving uncle, a grateful son and honored to be called a friend.

He was the kind of person who always tried to keep his word. He strongly believed in the Lord's words and stuck to his beliefs.  He was a stubborn but truthful man with grit.

He was Loved in Life as much in death by his Family and Friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Gia Lara, 4 sons, John Lara, Jr. (sp. Carrie), Rico Lara, Eric Lara, Mark Lara, his mother, Rosa Lara, sister, Araceli Martinez (sp. Eusebio), 2 brothers, Michael Lara (sp. Marjorie), Ralph Lara (sp. Veronica), 10 grandchildren, John III, Desiree, Jordan (John), Serina, Selena, Crystal, Celine, Rico Jr. (Rico), Eric Jr., Angelo (Eric), several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A viewing will be held Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 1pm in the chapel at DeBerry Funeral Home, followed by a "Celebration of Life" from 2pm-3pm.  In honor of John's wishes, he will be cremated and buried later.
