John Grover Maxwell Jr., 80, passed away peacefully at his home on November 5, 2025. Born on April 22, 1945, John lived a life marked by kindness, integrity, and devotion to his faith, family, and friends.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his son, John G Maxwell III and wife Jennifer; his daughter, Stephanie Housing and husband Josh; and five cherished grandchildren: Elyse, John, Connor, Alex, and Ben. He was preceded in death by his father, John G Maxwell Sr.; his mother, Bonnie Maxwell; and his son, Bret E Maxwell.
John loved living in Kauai and had a passion for golf. He especially enjoyed visiting his grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them. He was a proud graduate of the University of North Texas and later earned his MBA from the University of Southern California. John served his country as a US Air Force veteran, where he was a B-52 captain within Strategic Air Command and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service in Vietnam. He also served as a private pilot to the Rockefellers and retired as a Captain from American Airlines in 2005.
A service to celebrate John's life will be held on Monday, November 10th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas (2255 N. Bonnie Brae St). At 9:00 a.m. there will be the saying of the rosary, 9:30am Visitation, 10:00am Mass, and burial following at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation (http://www.t2t.org) which supports the veteran community and our first responders in need.
John's life was filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support for his family. He will be remembered for his adventurous heart, and the positive impact he had on all who knew him.
