John Ross Piburn, 95, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 in Denton. He was born in Washington DC on January 24, 1925 to Edwin W. and Anne Ross Piburn.
John served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. After the war, he became an airline pilot and was employed by Braniff International Airways. He flew professionally for several companies for over 40 years including chartered international travel with American Trans Air during the last decade of his career.
In 1972, He married Valeria Kress of Medford, Wisconsin where they made their home in Denton, TX. He was passionate about family, friends, and had numerous hobbies that included hunting, fishing, tennis, and competitive trap shooting. Proud of his heritage, John was also a member of the Cherokee Nation. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and friend.
John is preceded in death, by his parents, Edwin W. Piburn, Brigadier General retd., Anne Ross Piburn, and one brother, Edwin W. Piburn, Jr., Colonel retd.
He is survived by his wife, Valeria, and four children; John-Ross Piburn, Jr., Gayle Ross, Lizabeth and James Spoonts, and Allyson and Edward Coe, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wed. Sept. 2nd at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church at 6500 Crawford Rd, Argyle, TX. 76226, officiated by Father George. John will be laid to rest at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas Texas.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund for St. Mark Catholic Church, Argyle, TX.
