Horwedel, John 'Jack' Robert Sr., 75, died peacefully at his home in Little Elm, TX on Thursday, February 7, 2013. Born in Albany, N.Y. on August 5, 1937, he was the son of the late John F. and Jean (D'Angelo) Horwedel. He grew up in Albany, N.Y., attended Christian Brothers Academy and received his bachelorette degree from Syracuse University. He raised his family in Hyde Park, NY and taught Social Studies to 8th grade at Poughkeepsie Middle School for 35 years. He retired in Texas, enjoyed sports, traveling and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, John R. Horwedel, Jr. of Little Elm, TX; Richard A. and Julie (Horwedel) Parker of Valatie, NY; Kevin A. Horwedel of Denton, TX; Christopher A. Horwedel of Homewood, AL; and Valerie J. Horwedel of Albany, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kristy Horwedel and Sean Parker, his sister Elizabeth (Horwedel) Tatar of Kirkland, WA and nieces Ingrid and Lauren Tatar of Kirkland, WA.
A catholic memorial service is planned for Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10AM at DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Dr. in Denton with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton, TX. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to your community hospice.
