John L. Stallings, 91, of Denton passed away peacefully at his home on September 12, 2018. He was born in Seymour, Texas on February 21, 1927 to Leslie and Myrter (Smiley) Stallings.

John graduated from Seymour High School then joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. He married Catherine Conner Stallings on December 28, 1947.  He attended Texas Tech, Hardin College and graduated Midwestern State in 1949.

John taught school in Red Springs, Texas and managed the hospital in Seymour before moving to Washington D.C. to serve as Secretary to Congressman Frank Ikard for 6 years. In 1961 he moved to Denton, Texas to serve as Field Officer for the Office of Civil Defense and retired in 1980.

John was an avid golfer and never met stranger. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lions Club, was a Free Mason and an Eagle Scout. He also served on the Chamber Commerce in Seymour.

John is survived by his daughter, Luanne and her husband, Richard Guditis of Denton, grandchildren: Kris Powell and wife Mandi, Jared Guditis, Ricky Guditis and wife Roberta, Jeremi Guditis and wife AnnByron, great-grandchildren, Allin Guditis, Logan Guditis, Dylan Guditis, Lucas Guditis, Gabby Guditis, Whitley Guditis and Noah Guditis, nephews: Max Stallings and wife Vickie, Bill Honeyfield and wife Liz and niece: Debra Stallings and husband Gary.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leslie Stallings, mother, Myrter Smiley Stallings, wife, Catherine Stallings, granddaughter, Andrea Powell, brother, Troy Stallings and sister, Irene Honeyfield.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. both will be held at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday at Westover Cemetery in Baylor, County Texas at 3:00 P.M.
