Obituary

John Villanueva, 71, of Sanger, Texas passed away after a long battle with cancer on January 30, 2021 at his home. He was born San Juan Villanueva in Corpus Christi, Texas to Carlos and Maria (Sanchez) Villanueva on August 7, 1949.

John attended Molina High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. On July 6, 1968 John and Lucia "Lucy" were married at Saint John Catholic Church in Valley View, Texas. John worked for several years at Trinity Steele and later worked at Peterbilt Motors in Denton, Texas where he retired after 32 years. He was a man of great faith and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas. He loved to spend time with his family, supporting his sons as they competed in barbecue competitions, and sharing his love for music. John loved to travel, camp, bowl and play darts. He was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. He was known to be a quiet man with a powerful presence. He had a kind and giving heart. He will always be remembered wearing his cowboy hat, sitting with his arms crossed, and singing along to the music.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Villanueva, sons, Juan Alberto "John" Villanueva and wife Beverly of Gainesville, Texas. Vicente "Vince" Villanueva and wife Minerva of Denton, Martin Benavides of Sanger, Texas, grandchildren, Cassie Meraz and Braulio, Jeremy Villanueva, Mireya Villanueva, Klarissa Villanueva, Alyssa Benavides, Austin Benavides, Elizabeth Stoltzfus, great-grandchildren, Jax and Eva Meraz, Adeline Villanueva, Hendrix and Arlo Dickey, Joziah and Evelynn Ledbetter, and his siblings, Marcelino Villanueva of Sanger, Amelia Puente of Dallas, Aristeo Villanueva of Corpus Christi, Maria Reyes of Dallas, Pilar Juarez of Sanger, Ysidra De La Rosa of Denton, and Delmira Rodriguez of Grand Prairie, Tx.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings, Concepción Ovalle, Justino Villanueva, Julian Villanueva, Carlos Villanueva, and Viviana Tapia.

A rosary will be said at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at DeBerry Funeral Directors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 4. 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas.
