Jon Michael "Mike" Smith, 76, of Denton passed away Friday, December 04, 2015 in Denton. He was born September 26, 1939 in Bowie to James Gordon "John" Smith and Margaret Elnora Crawford Smith. He married Linda Anne Yeatts on October 25, 1958 in Gainesville. He served in the U.S. Army; member of the 589th Signal Corps and graduated from Denton High School in 1957, Collin County Community College in 1993 and the University of North Texas in 1996. He was a member of the Society for Latin American Professionals (SLAP). After a 28 year career in defense electronics, he retired after 17 years in academia as Director of Testing for Collin County Community College.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors.

Mike is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Smith of Denton; daughter, Gina Michelle Smith Thurman and husband, John Thurman of Denton; son, Scott Michael Smith and wife Brandy Cantrell Smith of Sunset LA; sister, Laurel Ann Smith Gideon of Sanger and 3 grandchildren, Blake, Sydni and Cheyanne. He is preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the Stations 2 and 3 of the Denton Fire Department, staff of Denton Regional Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital of Denton, Dr. Tim McGuire, Dr. Snidhar Iyer, Dr. Michael Spivey, and Dr. Jon Krumerman and all of their staff for helping make his life more comfortable.
