Joseph Lea Fearing III, age 89, of Denton, TX died on January 3, 2016. He was born in Edwards, NY to Grace ( Carqueville ) and Joseph Lea Fearing Jr. After attending high school at Kent School in Connecticut, he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He received his bachelors and masters degree from the University of Chicago and his doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado. He taught five years at the University of Houston and 39 years in the College of Education at TWU.
Joe loved to travel, golf, and sail on Lake Texoma where he was a member of the Cedar Mills Yacht Club. He served as an elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he was a longtime member.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Peggy) McLain Fearing; 3 daughters, Marilyn (Danny) Harris of Sanger, Jan (Reagan) Waskom of Fort Collins, CO, Kim (Larry) McGehee of Argyle; 2 sons, Scott Fearing (Leslie) of Arlington, VA and Mark Fearing of Denton; 12 grand children and 9 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for January 10th at 2:00 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church 2200 N. Bell Avenue, Denton, Texas.
