Joseph Edward Hollis Jr. passed away in Denton, Texas, on Wednesday, December 4,
2024. He was born in Denton on April 13, 1950, to Joseph and Gracie Fourteen Hollis.
Joseph Hollis Jr. attended Fred Moore High School before graduating from Denton
Senior High School. He furthered his education at Cook County Community College in
Gainesville, TX, where he studied architecture. With a strong work ethic, Joseph
dedicated 40 years of service to Denton ISD before retiring. Throughout his career, he
received numerous awards and expressions of gratitude from his leaders, colleagues,
students, and those he supervised, reflecting the deep affection many had for him.
Affectionately known as "Killer Joe", a nickname he earned as his CB handle. Joseph was
beloved for his generosity, kindness, and sense of humor. He was known for being the
life of the party, always sporting a smile and ready to dance. Joseph cherished his family
and friends, bringing joy and laughter to everyone around him.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his mother Gracie
Fourteen Hollis, his father Joseph Edward Hollis Sr., his brothers Billie Thomas and Jessie
Davis, his sister Regina Hollis, his grandson Jerome Hollis Jr., and his bonus son Raymond
Evans Jr.
Joseph is survived by his loving partner Earnestine "Tina" McKinney Evans of Denton, TX;
his daughter Shaleesha Hollis of Buford, GA; and his son Jerome Hollis (Sophia) of
Gainesville, GA. He also leaves behind his bonus daughters Valencia Davis (deceased
Charles) of Ohio, Tina Kinney (Duan) of Denton, TX, Joy Ricks (Larry) of Frisco, TX, and
Shamon Bradley (Jared) of Denton, TX. His siblings include Ida Hunter (Ricki) of Temple,
TX; Charles Hollis of Denton, TX; Geneva Kirby (Randy) of Crowley, TX; and Loretta Coble
of Mansfield, TX. He is also remembered by his special nephew William Tyrone Lewis of
Austin, TX, along with grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
A visitation for Joseph will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at DeBerry Funeral Home. The funeral service will start at 2:00, immediately following visitation.
