Joseph Nicholas Liberto was born on December 25, 1927 to Antonio Raymond Liberto and Ida Barbara Bindo in Shreveport, LA.
After a visit to Dallas in 1936 to the Texas State Fair, Joseph's family decided to make Dallas their home. At which time he continued his education at J.H. Brown elementary then went on to graduate from Forest Avenue High School. Following graduation, he worked for several months at the Federal Reserve Bank, then he joined the US Navy.
Joseph proudly served his country for three years in the South Pacific on the battleship USS Iowa. He later served on the US Bedoin Strait during the Korean Conflict making a total of eight years in the US Navy.
After returning home, he met and married the lovely Nell French, mother to be of his three children, Beth, Mike, and Tim. Joseph and Nell were happily married raising their family for 51 years.
During that time, he decided to continue his education and attend one year at North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, then went on to receive his BA in Accounting at SMU graduating 3rd in his class, Magna Cum Laude.
Joseph was a wonderful father training his children and preparing them to face the challenges of life as a Christian Dad should do.
He learned to grow a vegetable garden in the early '40's from the leadership of his beloved mother. Almost everywhere he lived there was a garden spot with lots of veggies to share with neighbors.
He also liked to do wood working projects at the Denton Senior Center where he and Nell were regulars.
He seldom missed the sports achievements in which his boys or his grandchildren were involved. He was always so proud of their accomplishments.
After he retired as comptroller for Johnson & Johnson, he was not satisfied doing nothing, so he and Nell started a new business in Krum, Texas.
In a few years, Nell became ill and went home to be with the Lord leaving Joseph very lonely and lost.
At a high school reunion, he renewed a friendship with Mary Lou Malloy Rollinson, a widow. They had been classmates at J.H. Brown when his family moved to Dallas in 1937.
After several months of emails and visits and phone calls, Joseph asked Mary Lou to marry him. They have had a wonderful eight years together. Joseph helped Lou as she served her precinct at elections over the years. Together they worked with Kessler Park Baptist Church and Cornerstone Baptist Church with their Homeless Feeding Ministry, also giving time to collecting and delivering items to the Texas Baptist Children's Home. Serving on the Board of Directors of Assembly #285 of IORG.
Then there was their involvement with politics and of course both Church activities – Baptist and Catholic, and FAHS High School Reunions and bi-monthly luncheons with FAHS ladies.
Joseph is a member of ICC and Holy Trinity and also attended St. Cecilia at Dallas. He visited after with Lou at KPBC. He is a member of the K of C in Denton, 32 degree mason Member OC Lodge 705 AF&AM, Scottish Rite and York Rite, Loyal Chapter 648 O.E.S., and Forest Ave High School Alumni.
