Obituary

Joy Lou Comstock Puckett passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023. Joy was born on March 25, 1934 in Liberal, Kansas to William Earl and Lillie Elva Matlock Comstock. At an early age they moved to her beloved Dalhart, Texas where she spent her early years along with her sisters, Earlene and Colleen. They became known, in the family, as "the three perfect sisters". At the age of 19, she left Dalhart and moved to Grand Prairie, Texas to work for the First National Bank. It was there in February 1954 that she met the love of her life, Thomas Duane Puckett, while he was on a 30 day leave from the United States Navy. After a short courtship, they were married on April 30, 1954 in Camarillo, California. Together they had two children, Tom and Debra, who were her pride and joy. She was blessed with 3 grandchildren that were the loves of her life and 6 great grandchildren she adored.

Joy and Duane lived in numerous locations, primarily in Texas, during their 69 years of marriage. Wherever they called home they became involved in their church and Joy was a devoted Christian. They had a gift of always making lifelong friends wherever they lived and thoughout those years enjoyed cherished times of fellowship and fun. They loved traveling and were blessed to experience so much in life. Joy retired from the Irving Independent School District at the age of 56 and was able to enjoy quality time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered by those that knew her as a lady of grace and eloquence. She was meticulous about her appearance and always admired by others with her classy attire.

Joy was loved and adored by her husband and was truly inseparable from him. Duane was her sole caregiver for the past 8 years as Joy experienced more doctor visits, hospital stays and surgeries than one should ever have to endure. She was a strong fighter of life and never complained even in her last few years when she was dependent on Duane for her every need. She was the epitome of determination and perseverance.

Joy built a foundation for her children and grandchildren and her legacy will be carried forward always with her in mind. We are forever blessed to have had the most devoted mom and Gaga.

Joy Lou Puckett is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband and two children: Tom Puckett (Amy), Debra Puckett Harrell (Ken), 3 grandchildren: Justin Puckett (Kiley), Meredith Harrell Gomez (Ernesto), Paige Sherrick (Blake), 6 great grandchildren: Collins Puckett, Pierce Puckett, Palmer Sherrick, Campbell Sherrick, Javi Gomez, Asher Gomez and two sisters: Earlene Martin and Colleen Bond.

There will be a private service at the Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery.
