Joyce Ann Mccollum's Obituary

Joyce Ann Huey McCollum, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with her Savior on October 7, 2018.

Joyce was born in Mountain Springs, Texas on April 3, 1935 the daughter of Earnest "Red" Huey and Bessie McGilvray Huey.  Joyce was blessed with a loving family. She married Billy E. McCollum, Sr. on August 20, 1952 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Cooke County. Joyce graduated from Valley View High School in 1953, and after moving with her husband while he was in the army, they finally settled in Denton, Texas. In 1976, she and Bill built their home in Krum, and that is where she resided until her death. She had a fulfilling career at the University of North Texas and retired in 1992. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, sewing, and gardening.  There was always good food, beautiful flowers and plants when visiting Joyce. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Krum, and she was a devoted and loving mother and Nana.

Joyce is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Billy McCollum; her three children, Gayla White and her husband Bobby of Valley View, Donna Carpenter and her husband Rex of Akron, Ohio, and Billy McCollum, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Krum; her two sisters, Martha Rogers and her husband Gene of Littlefield, and Linda Eaton and her husband Jackie of Gainesville. Additionally, she is survived by her six grandchildren, Mark Rash and his wife Tiffany, Amanda Harrolle and husband Scott McCurdy, Craig Carpenter and his wife Rebecca, Colin Carpenter and his partner Etienne Kallos, Shelby McCollum, and Sydney Wallace and her husband Justin; six great-grandchildren, Kaylee Barr, Grace Rash, Reed Rash, Daniel Harrolle, Knox Carpenter, and Teagan Wallace. Joyce is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Earnest and Bessie Huey.

Visitation will be at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton, Texas on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 6 PM to 8 PM Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Krum on Thursday, October 11 at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Ed Gatlin and Rev. Jay Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Krum. Pallbearers will be Mark Rash, Craig Carpenter, Colin Carpenter, Justin Wallace, Kevin Lord, and Tom Rainey.
