Joyce Armstrong Nix, 85, of Lake Kiowa passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-Denton.  Joyce was born February 28, 1935 in Loraine, Texas, to Virtus  David and Mary Virginia (Smith) Armstrong. She married Franklin Delaine (Cotton) Nix in 1956.

Joyce met her future husband, Cotton, while both attended the former North Texas State University. Joyce would go on to teach second grade for 25 years in the Denton Independent School District at Lee Elementary and Newton Rayzor Elementary.

Joyce retired from teaching after the 1989-90 school year and moved to Lake Kiowa to enjoy a slower paced lifestyle with her husband.  Eventually both sons and their families moved to Lake Kiowa to join in the lake-life fun.  Unlike her husband, she did not fish nor play golf often; but rather, her life centered on supporting her husband and two sons.  She worked full time teaching but always made time to create a wonderful home, to attend her husband's baseball and basketball games, to drive her boys to numerous activities all over town, to help her boys with their homework and school assignments, and most of all, to provide a loving and supportive environment for all.

Joyce was a kind, loving, caring, generous wife, mother and sister.  She was loved by all, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors on Monday, February 8, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. for visitation. The family has requested that memorials be made to the Cooke County United Way.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the Oak Grove Cemetery on Hwy 720 just east of Hwy 380 in Denton County.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Royce Armstrong, and her husband who passed in 2019.  Joyce is survived by her sister, Jean Flanagan; sons, David Nix and wife Nancy; Mickey Nix and wife Lorene; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
