Obituary

With heavy hearts full of gratitude, we share the passing of our beloved mother and Nana, Joyce Lilian Siegmund (née Relf), who departed this life on Sunday, June 7. With her classically British warmth, wit, and grace, she lived her 91 years to their fullest. We take solace knowing she is no longer bound by the frustrations of an earthly body that couldn’t support all that her active mind still wanted to achieve.

Joy was born on March 2, 1935 in London, England (specifically in Bow—the dodgy end). She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Harvey Siegmund; her daughter, Wendy (Siegmund) Martinez, and three grandsons: Ben, Matthew, and Alex Martinez, all of Denton, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Flower, of Camberly, England. She is preceded in death by her mother, Alice Benfield Relf and brother, Colin Relf, both of London, England. We are grateful for the many other extended family and friends who remember and will carry her light with them.

Joy deeply loved her work and the friends she made supporting various service organizations throughout her years in Denton; especially the Greater Denton Arts Council, Denton Benefit League, Our Daily Bread, and the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival.

A Requiem Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church, 623 Ector Street in Denton, Texas. A reception celebrating her life will follow in the Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Denton Arts Council or the Denton Animal Support Foundation.
